January 3, 2013 – Polytron’s Rande Allen, PMP was published in the Quality Magazine. The article Tribal Knowledge focuses on the capture of functional knowledge, customs, language and best practices that naturally exist between various plant operating groups.
This can lead to dramatic operating efficiency differences from one shift to the next and can affect all levels of a plant’s operation from production scheduling to staffing. This article shows how one organization applied Technology Transfer and Training methodologies to build a culture that enabled the manufacturer to operate a new complex batching system producing quality product during the first batch. A true testament to the importance of supporting the operators in attaining a common goal, and jointly developing training plans and validated materials for future use and reference.
